Yoga for Healing

Although it’s not a cure, yoga can help you survive cancer with strength, hope, and vitality.  ‘Yoga for Healing’ made a debut at the Cancer Center towards the end of 2017 and has turned into a weekly class for those dealing with cancer. Yoga is part of a growing movement that harnesses the healing power of yoga's breathing practices, meditation techniques, and physical poses. Cancer survivor, Doreen Riedman, enjoys the ‘Yoga for Healing’ classes and the people taking part, “It’s a nice way to unwind and share the camaraderie with other folks who have gone through some of the similar things that I’ve gone through over the last couple of years,” she said.  Advances in diagnosis and treatment mean that even when a cure isn't possible, long-term survival often is often a reality.

The main focus of developing ‘Yoga for Healing’ classes was to spread the healing power that research has shown to help cancer patients with their fatigue. Bonny Fetch is not only one of the yoga instructors, but also a survivor herself, “I love looking out there and seeing the relaxation occur, seeing the way they smile. They really open up,” she said. The class invites all cancer survivors and caregivers to attend the free hour-long yoga sessions held in the conference room at the Bismarck Cancer Center. Contact Dana at 701-222-6145 or email at for more information.
